How to Make Veggie Sushi
Want to know how to make sushi? It's always been one of my favorite foods, but it also seemed so complicated to make. Thanks to COVID Quarantine, my husband and I decided to try it. Actually, he decided to try it, and I decided to write about it. It turned out to be surprisingly easy. He found a great rice recipe and we added several different fillings to create our own sushi bar. Follow these easy steps to become your own sushi ninja.
Rinse the rice thoroughly in water until it's no longer cloudy.
While the rice is cooking, use a small sauce pan to dissolve the sugar and salt in the rice vinegar over medium heat.
When the rice is done, put it into another bowl and pour the vinegar mixture over the rice. Mix together gently.
Rice vinegar and nori sheets can be found in the Asian section of most grocery stores.
Next, spread the rice in a thin layer on top of one sheet of nori. The rice will be sticky, so use a bowl of warm water to dip your spoon or fingers in to help spread it without sticking.
Thinly chop your vegetables of choice and line them up on one end of the nori.
A classic veggie sushi combination contains cucumber, carrots and avocado. I threw in some red pepper here too. Get creative!
Roll Tightly. I used a baking mat here, and it worked great. You can also use a transitional sushi bamboo rolling mat, but your hands will also work just as well.
Use a really sharp knife, and run it under water to help cut smoothly through the nori.
Now you're on your way to becoming a sushi chef! Once the word is out, you'll be the most popular member of your supper club!
Enjoy!
